Deanne L. Surles
Family Engagement Manager
Deanne Surles is a Family Engagement Manager, Parent Educator, Mentor and Facilitator in Wayne County. As a Family Engagement Manager, Deanne is responsible for managing programs which provide literacy instruction and life skills training for low-income adults and children. Deanne completed her undergraduate studies in Atlanta, GA earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Clark Atlanta University. She also earned a MEd in Secondary Education and MA in Educational Leadership from The Ohio State University and Cornerstone University respectively. A native Detroiter and former classroom teacher, Deanne has dedicated her life to underserved youth and adults in her community. Deanne has facilitated webinars and workshops on issues relative to family engagement, school readiness, literacy, community service and post-secondary education preparedness. Active in her community, Deanne is a member of several organizations including the Junior League of Detroit, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and the Detroit Inter Alumni Council of the UNCF. Deanne has a passion for seeing the lives of young women changed through impactful mentorship in the community. Deanne’s greatest accomplishment is as wife and mother. She is happily married and the proud, doting mother to two daughters. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, camping, taking long walks, serving in her local church and spending time with family and friends.
