Military Veteran Peer Network
Peer Service Coordinator
Shelia Y. Anthony considers herself a “military brat.” Although she was born in Jacksonville, Florida, she claim Grand Forks, North Dakota as her home. Anthony retired from the U.S. Army in 2017, after serving for 22 years. During her service, she was deployed twice to Afghanistan. The first time at the Kunar Province (Korengal Valley) and the second time at FOB Andar. She earned a Bronze Star Medal amongst other awards while serving.
From animal services to feeding the homeless, Anthony was everywhere. She started networking and getting to know various people who had the same passion as hers, and she wanted more. Then she came across the awesome opportunity of working with Military Veteran Peer Network. To be able to continue giving back, use her talents of finding resources, and link up with other organizations was such a blessing for her.
Anthony has two associates degrees, one in General Studies, the other in Applied Science focusing on Culinary Arts (Pastry), a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, and she is in her final semester obtaining her master's degree in Sociology.
Not including all the training received in the military, she is currently trained to give Mental Health First Aid, Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM), and ASK About Suicide to Save a Life. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Coalition for the Homeless and the Chair for the Family Advisory Council.
