Transitions at Be Strong Families

Since our last issue of the Revitalizer, we welcomed two full-time staff members:

Jamika Smith, Downstate Program Manager  | Illinois DCFS Youth Advisory Board

Since earning her bachelor’s degree in Human Services in 2014 from Purdue University, Jamika has passionately served the youth in her community in various capacities through employment, mentoring and volunteering opportunities. Her devotion to advocating and supporting youth led Jamika to being presented the “Backbone of the Black Home” award in 2016, a recognition presented for outstanding commitment to youth in the community.

Justin Margolis, Training and Technical Assistance Provider

Justin joined the Be Strong Families staff after several months as a training consultant. Justin came to the field of social work, public service, and nonprofit work via an unconventional path that gave him extensive experience in navigating many of the same pitfalls as the clients that are seen on a daily basis. Justin is a graduate of the Sierra Health Foundation, Health Leadership Class XI. In 2021, Justin received his Bachelor of Social Work from the California State University, Chico.

Guy Schingoethe, former founding partner and COO

We also said goodbye to founding partner and COO, Guy Schingoethe. Guy had been with Be Strong Families since we evolved out of Strengthening Families Illinois and had been part of Strengthening Families Illinois since its start in 2007. It is impossible to overstate the contributions Guy has made Be Strong Families -- and the family support field --  in his 15+ years of service. Whether it was setting up systems, holding down the operations fort, creating budgets, organizing events, or building fatherhood programs, Guy was our go-to for so many things. We wish him all the best as he moves on to the next portion of his life’s journey and we will miss him fiercely.
